Formation
A practice informed by public service
Before coming to the Bar, Zakir worked as an Immigration Officer within the Home Office, gaining direct experience of administrative decision-making, statutory procedure and the assessment of complex evidence.
At the Bar, he has applied that experience across a far broader practice: advising those affected by government decisions, representing public authorities, undertaking instructions from the Government Legal Department, and appearing in proceedings where the exercise of public power was directly in issue.
The practice that has resulted is founded on close analysis, procedural accuracy and a clear understanding of how legal decisions are reached, challenged and defended.
Independence
Independent counsel
Each matter is assessed on its facts, its evidence and its legal merits. Where a case is capable of being advanced, Zakir identifies the strongest route. Where the position carries material risk, he explains that risk plainly. Where litigation is unlikely to produce the desired result, he considers whether negotiation, settlement or a revised strategy would better serve the client.
The advice is candid, measured and directed to the client's actual objective.
